A Blog is A Blog About Something

Bad title for a blog, but the personal life has not been very exciting since the last blog, even though the world has been full of events and drama. (Really awful high school prose, ain't this)
Alito and ABC anchorman Bob Woodruff and his cameraman who got bombed in Iraq have been the centers of the news today. (The cameraman is very secondary in the news coverage.) And to add to the misery in Iraq a teenage girl has supposedly died from the bird flu (all they need over there to contend with.)

(This section is being typed on Monday night). Gloomy and windy day today. Not much exciting at work and not much exciting being reported in Des Moines. Probably actually lots of important stuff, but I have been having a restless phase recently (not young, just restless). I guess if you seek a brighter day as the world turns life can be beautiful if you avoid passions during secret storms.

An interesting Reuters story on the Drudge site that W says that Bill Clinton and Daddy Bush have become such good friends that Bill is almost a member of the Bush family. And W thinks that Hillary will succeed him as President. (If Bill becomes a Bush will he be known as B?)

There is a Catholic high school in Clinton, Iowa named Clinton Prince of Peace. Really bad pun in this I am forced to share with you.

At the SAG awards last night in Hollywood they gave a lifetime achievement award to Shirley Temple. She still looks pretty good.

Well, dear friends, this must be all for right now. Bed time. I have been weak about blogging every night in this new blog. But I have heard no loud shout from the blogosphere that everyone is waiting for my creativity online. I know you are shy about it. Di di mau!

What Does It All Mean, Sandy and Bud?

Nice day today. No wind gusts. No snow. Sun shining. Like a nice March instead of January. There must be One person in the blog universe who cares about this besides me in the Midwest USA. No trouble at work today. Everything went well.

Paul Newman is 81 today.

In my previous blogsite, which I accidently deleted I made a list of famous people I could remember that I had seen in the flesh. So, for anyone interested, here is another listing: Ronald Reagan, Henry Kissinger, Mike Dukakis, Teddy Kennedy, George Strait, Morgana, Nancy Sinatra, Michael Landon, Doc and Festus. At the Des Moines Home Show once I met Dean Johnson and Robin Hartl (everyone wanted to really meet Jo Jo.) When the movie Quiz Show came out a local video store invited Herb Stemple-the guy who blew the whistle on rigged quiz shows; he was a somewhat splotchy-faced guy who did not really say much. Some people I missed seeing when they were in the territory I was near: Harry Truman, Birgit Nilsson, Margaret Thatcher.

I saw Garth Brookes at the Iowa State Fair in 1991, when he came to do a show at the last minute after Ricky Van Shelton was a no-show. Garth was just getting started as a Star and lots of people did not know who he was--and he did a show that blew the roof off the place. He was wild and great.

My Name is Earl was very funny tonight--one of the best episodes. His brother tried to get a job, and Earl was trying to do good to his friend who was in prison. I assume the first season will be out in a DVD set in the not far off future.

The news of the day centered today on Hamas winning the power in the Palestinian election. Netanyahu has been on the tube saying not to trust them, and Hamas supporters are roaming around Gaza acting militant. Last night Saadam's former top General was on Fox saying that the wmds had been hidden in Syria. Interesting.

Richard Hatch may have to spend 13 years in jail for not paying taxes on his Survivor winnings and his consulting business. Did anyone at CBS work out the tax situation when he won his million? Jokes at work today on whether Richard would have a good time in a prison.
Hang in there, Richard.

I really have little else to relate tonight. I know that stuff is going on in the world, but Drudge has it all on his site. I will sometime weigh in on the Alito situation (I support him for the Court), but others are covering the story from all angles.

This will be all for right now. More next time. It is now 9:10 p.m. Di di mau!

The Wind and the Blogging

The big thing in Des Moines today has been the 40 mph. winds that have been blowing since early since this morning. We have had worse wind storms around here, but this one has been irritating. A couple of bridges closed to traffic, and some light poles down, and some power outages. But it has been warm all day and the sky is clear. What we need is moisture--snow or rain. Supposedly Feb. is going to be very snowy. Next week is Groundhog Day. Phil will get drug out of his tree and see his shadow or not--and then spring will be on the way.

Aerosmith is coming to town on March 23 for a big concert.

Neil Diamond is 65 today.

Gerald Ford is back in the hospital, with pneunomia again. I hope he gets well. Gerry Ford is one of my most-admired presidents.

If Alito is as horrible a judge as the Democrats say he is, and he really wants to destroy all American liberties, why did the judiciary committee approve him being a federal judge in the first place? (I asked the same question about Roberts.)

Kanye West is now comparing his "suffering" to the suffering of Jesus; Kanye did not win the Grammy he thought he deserved, and Joel Stein has an essay in the LA Times saying why he does not "support the troops." And CBS let 2 1/2 Men last night get on the air with some over the top masturbation jokes. Welcome to the 21st century, I guess. And Jason Lee, who plays Earl, is down sick with chicken pox-after shaking hands with everybody at the Golden Globes.

Greta is doing new news on Natalie, and George Smith-the missing bridegroom from the cruise ship.

This will be all for right now. It is now 9:35 p.m. Di di mau!
